Home Share with Jessica Delgado

Welcome to a new segment on the blog, Home Share, a place where designers, bloggers, and really neat people take a few minutes to share something special about their home and what they love about it.  I am so excited to welcome Jessica Delgado to our Home Share  today.  Jessica is a talented designer with a great sense of style and a genuine love for her client’s individuality.  I just couldn’t wait to share her take on bringing tropical design to her own newly purchased home in Gilbert, Arizona.  Ready to see more?  Let’s go tropical in the desert!

Jessica used palms, color and textures to create a work space that feels far from work. I am LOVING that green lamp!

“‘The second we saw this house, we knew it was the one.” Jessica recalls with her boyfriend.  “Both of us had things that were important to us in our home. I wanted modern finishes inside so that I could bring in my traditional elements with the furniture.

I would say my design style is comfortable transitional.  I would never classify my style as contemporary or traditional. I truly love certain elements in each style which brings out the transitional design.  I like to create a space that is timeless and classic and that can be changed up with different accessories throughout the years to give a different look, rather than changing the whole space.

My favorite room is one of my guest bedrooms!  I love to entertain and host, so having a guest bedroom where my guests feel comfortable is very important.  It is, in fact, the only room in the house that is totally completed.  The design in this room is tropical glam.  Most of the pieces in this room are things that I had in my previous condo’s family room, so it was easy to complete this space first.  The other reason this room is my favorite is because it’s the only room I have that has color, my favorite color, which is green!”

“I decided I wanted a tropical room because to me, a tropical design makes you feel like you are on a vacation, takes you away from your hectic day and you can relax and imagine being near a beach, in the desert haha!  I also love tropical because the design entails a lot of bold colors or bold statements in the space.”

custom drapery helps make this one of Jessica’s favorite rooms

“One of my absolute favorite things in this room is my drapery.  I had a designer help me pick window treatments… and when I told the designer I was doing a tropical glam design he said he had this amazing fabric with banana leaves on it. I had to see it, and as soon as I saw the print, I instantly fell in love and had to have it.  To me, it is the best statement in the room right when you walk in. To see these tall, bold green drapery panels really sets the mood for this room.”

a little glam goes the distance. ottoman are great solutions when you are using a sleeper sofa in your guest room.  they make a statement then know when to get out of the way.

“I want to love the way my room looks and from time to time I just go sit in there and look at it because it makes me smile.”

SSD: What advice you would give to a new homeowner who is struggling to create a room they will love in their new home?

Jessica:  ” First, make this home you! Everyone is going to want to give you advice or their ideas, but this is YOUR home. It needs to reflect you. Find pieces that you love and that speak to you in some way.  Don’t be afraid to have a 5 ft piece of art or a rug that has a bold pattern with bright colors.  These are the pieces that make your home unique and make them you.  I also highly recommend completing one room at a time.  Instead of doing a few things in each room, focus on one room and totally finish it from head to toe complete with the finishing touches of plants and accessories. I promise you will be so happy doing it this way.”
