2018 rings in with the drama and mystery of Pantone’s 2018 color of the year: Ultraviolet.  This daring hue is not your average purple and if used with confidence can unlock worlds of color opportunity for your home.   Ultraviolet’s bold blends, inky concoctions and starry night embers revitalize even the softest palette bringing in a new found optimism and focus on the future.  Here are 7 ways ultra violet makes a statement in your home without making an ULTRA-commitment!

Before you run out and purchase that deep purple velvet sofa for your newly painted purple family room, you might try taking your ultraviolet temperature and get a good read on just how much ultra you can handle.  A little goes a long way, and that‘s OK. For most of us, purples are a stretch but don’t let lavender keep you down.  There are many ways we can use this color in more practical ways and still be on trend.

Decor8 shows beautiful vintage naturally solarized “sun amethyst” bottles. You can find these charmers around thrift shops or antique stores.  The color is the result of a chemical reaction between the glass and ultra violet sun light.  Keep your eyes open at your favorite hobby shop for faux versions as well.  Bottles, jars or dishes make a moment when gathered together.  Vary the shape and height for the most visual impact.

You can’t go wrong with a little ‘ultra’ bling.  Add a bit of sparkly surprise by using crystal or painted knobs or pulls.  Feeling more adventurous?  Bellafayegarden shows the drama of a crystal chandelier.  Pair this with ultraviolet moments for your table .  I love the use of succulents just about anywhere there is a horizontal surface!  This is a super usable way to introduce a bit of our ultraviolet color that translates into most any design style.  From Farmhouse to Fifth Avenue these little plants can find a home in your home.

For a look at the softer side of our color of the year, pick up a set of tea towels, a soft cozy throw or for more ultra flair, a set of agate coasters.  Ultraviolet pairs well with so many different colors combinations, (read more) you don’t have to recreate the wheel to sprinkle a little ultraviolet in your world.  I would love to see what you are doing with ultraviolet!  Post your ultra “heck yeahs!” or “what the’s?!”  to #ultrasquare2018 on Instagram and share with me!
