Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes: 6 smartly sophisticated nursery trends that are sure to take your breath away!

So, we have amazing news here at Shaw Square.  We just marked the arrival of our 3rd grand-baby and welcomed our little man into the world.  It’s exciting to experience the energy a baby infuses into a family and to celebrate the occasion, I thought it would be fun to share some current trends showing up in nursery design.  Hold on to your diapers, kiddeaux! These aren’t the baby nurseries we Grandmas grew up with!  Nursery design has fully come of age with the smart, sophisticated approaches new parents are taking towards their baby’s first spaces that will take your breath away.  Grab your favorite sippy cup and let’s take a peek at these fabulous inspirations for nursery room design.  No poopy pants allowed!

Buffalo Check

Oh baby, bring on some buffalo plaid! It’s not just for picnic blankets and footie-jammies.  Buffalo Plaid brings a rustic charm that feels homey and inviting.  Whether using it with gender neutral colors like emerald green, teal, or yellow or fully committing to the more traditional pink and blue color stories, buffalo check inspired nurseries are ones to love!

Crib Canopies

Draped in an array of fabrics, canopies are on the rise in trendy nurseries.  From boho chic to traditional glam and the many styles in between, a canopy gives your new baby’s room a statement that is bold yet soft.  A little addition of height in your nursery is also a great way to bring your eye up and give the room a little extra polish and vertical interest.  As your baby gets bigger, a canopy translates easily into a playhouse or secret reading spot in their big kid room.  Win! Win!

Wall Decals

Go big or go home when it comes to using this design detail.  I am so in love with large scale wall decals right now I can hardly stand it!  What a great way to bring in big wow factor for any room, but especially in the nursery.  With sweet babies growing so fast those first years, this is an awesome solution for a major elevated statement without major elevated commitment.

Dot To Dot

In the same vein as wall decals, dots are a big deal in nursery wall trends right now.  They can be used precisely in crisp rows or sprinkled like confetti popping from a corner of the room.  Regardless, this trend is darling, whimsical and full of surprise.

Graphics and Monochromatics

If you love the idea of a fun, fresh nursery that’s not too baby-ish, a monochromatic scheme might be just the thing.  This approach takes a modern, uncluttered look at how we can style baby’s first room.  This approach is wonderfully gender neutral and like a few other styles, it can be influenced by the color story that’s told with it.  The bold graphics and high contrast elements are ideal for a little one’s first year of visual exploration and discovery.  Grown-up style with childlike wonder, who says you can’t have it all?

Chandeliers

Ok ya’ll, in case you’ve been living under a design rock for a few years, you know that chandeliers aren’t just for the dining room anymore.  We’ve seen them wander into the living room, the bedroom, even the bathroom.  Now we are seeing dynamic, large scale lighting becoming a focal of new nurseries in the know.  Go formal or go bohemian, there are no rules here. Keep it interesting, keep it big, and treat it like a piece of art.
